Part 2: Precedent Research Summary

Project Name: Prospect Park

My project is mainly interested in the Public Parks category. The reason for my interest in public parks is that they are also lucrative tourist attraction sites and in case it is an off-peak period for tourists members of the public tend to visit and relax in these parks. My project description consists of the following specific functions: the park in itself will be crafted on a 100 acre enclosure. The park will be made in such a way as to reduce the capacity of vehicles making use of it as a thoroughfare, this will ensure that traffic is controlled on either sides of the park; The park will set aside a 50 acre triangular area on the eastern part of the park to be utilized for military drills and sports. This has been set aside from the central area of the park because the intense activities could destroy the natural vegetation within the central part of the park (Lou 45).

The park will be spanned by eight baseball fields between its 10^th and 16^th streets. Three will be fundamental league fields that would serve adults while the rest are projected to accommodate young children characteristically between the ages of 9-13 years old. A track club will be put on the southern end of the park and its role will be to organize ordinary training for races and runs. There would also be a field designated for both women and men’s volleyball. There will also be horse racing in the park on a field that has been set on the west of the park (Forsyth 103).

The lake in the southern part of the park will be used for boat racing. In the winter the park will be averse with various activities including sledding, ice skating, and cross country skiing. A hill right in the middle of the park has been designated for sledding purposes in winter. The field in the park will be open for people who want to hold their concerts. Vehicle traffic would be designated to pass on the roads leading past the park at specific rush hours which occur at 7.00am and 6.00 pm to avoid problems with walkers, cyclists, runners and other park users who would be using the park most of the time (Craig 56).

4.1    My Role as a Client:

As client I will have to talk to the architectures about my budget, expectations and my project requirements so as to let them come up with an information brief.  I will compare the project designs they have and add or improve on what they have. I will then obtain local authority approval upon agreeing with the architecture on the project’s viability and budget (Morrone 34).

4.2     Description of the Site  

The site that will accommodate this project has a hill and a lake within which will form part of the establishment’s attractive sites. The land will be purchased by the end of this year and construction is slated to begin in the middle of next year. A road that passes in the middle of the park will be redirected to pass on either sides of the park. The place where the park is situated was originally occupied by a forest but was reduced to a pasture land when part of the forest was sold to private developers. However, a number of trees which gives the park a good serene environment still remain (Martin 44).
