GRIT is defined as having passion and perseverance, having stamina, and sticking to one’s plans every day for a very long time. It focuses on the level of mindset growth rather than talent. The four behaviors GRIT works with are; passion, perseverance, hard work, and stamina. GRIT test is used to estimate the success chances of a person through testing their resilience and self-motivation to reach their set goals by overcoming problems and distractions. GRIT associated behaviors relate to PsyCap (Psychological Capital) in that they are both success determinants. Both GRIT and PsyCapfocus more on hard work and resilience rather than hard work as a success determiner.
According to Angela Duckworth’s research, GRIT is the sure success determinant and not only in institutions but also in life generally, and even in business. When evaluating one’s suitability and abilities during interviews, GRIT should also be included. It would be an added advantage since a grittier person is likely to be more productive in the business. GRIT can be measured and assessed by carrying out the GRIT test. The results determine one’s possibility of success, and the analysis in most times is accurate. In carrying out the test on someone before employment will reveal their chance of success and the possibility of bringing good results to the company. The test is suitable since they evaluate one’s resilience, self-motivation, and stamina.
To increase one’s grit, one needs to increase the focus on thecurrent project and avoid distractions from other projects. One should also have more positivity and not let setbacks discourage one from reaching their goals. One can also work hard and try to maintain focus on the project until the end. Another thing is not quitting and retaining the same interest and conquer new challenges each day without giving up. However, before working on increasing one’s grittiness, one has to know his or her exact level of grittiness though carrying out the test and knowing exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are.
