Understanding the group dynamics and processes are critical in understanding the reason people in groups act the way they do, and the way they make decisions. Yalom model comprises of therapeutic interventions essentialin understanding the rationale behind behaviors amongst humans. To deeply understand Yalom’s therapeutic elements echoed in the Yalom model, the 1957 classic film “12 Angry Men “offers significant insights on the application of the model. The film is about 12 men who are the members of a particular jury and are tasked with the role of determining the fate of an 18 years old boy living in a slum and is allegedly accused of murdering his father. If the boy is a fund to be guilty, he will be executed to a mandatory death (YouTube, n.d).

If I were with this group of men, I would intervene by first learning how to exist with them, and this is as per the existential factors of Yalom model. I will learn the essence of being part of the jury and the importance of working as a team to deliberate the verdict of the young boy who is accused of murder. Furthermore, I would have instilled hopes to the jury who would have to seem to be let alone for being sensible (Leszcz, 2002). For example, juror eight is claiming that the boy should not be subjected to life sentence till legitimate evidence is found; if I were to join this group of men, I would prefer instilling hopes to juror eight and standing with him all through till the case is done.
To facilitate their growth, I will encourage group cohesiveness as per the Yalom model. Group cohesiveness will bring in the sense of togetherness as a result of displaying bonding through collective self-esteem among the members of the group, in this case, the jurors in the 12 Angry; Men. I will also insist on implicit norms to facilitate their growth; to help them grow, I will teach them on the normal that is humane and a lot on the rules that abide as per the law. For instance, to make juror three relevant and to a lot form him grow in the profession, I will insist that he stop using his feelings to judge, for instance, he claims that now that his son has been earlier on found to be guilty, the boy accused of murder is also guilty.
According to Yalom model, here and now is the sharing of raw and honest thoughts and feelings about what is happening at the moment. I will work in the here and now in the 12 Hungry Men film by letting everyone know that being from a slum does not mean that you are a lousy person; for example, jury ten who holds the view people from the slums are liars and dangerous and thus the young boy. Therefore I will let jury 10 know that not everyone from the slum is vulnerable and dishonesty; the person that we are depends on the way we were brought up.
The two tiers of the model include interpersonal learning and catharsis. Interpersonal knowledge is whereby individual gains self-insight upon interacting with others, thus helping him/her acquire interpersonal skills, for example, empathy. Catharsis, on the other hand, is concerned with gaining insight as a result of group interaction, which later on results in the internal change of assertiveness (Yalom & Leszcz,2005). If I were a group member I would say that even if the boy is found to be guilty, he should not be executed to mandatory death because his family needs him just the way ours need us and therefore death is not a solution; he should be punished and then released; and if he is not found to be guilty, the court should compensate the boy for wasting is time and destroying his reputation.
Transference, in this case, is the therapeutic setting whereby the individual in therapy applies certain emotions towards the therapist. At the same time, transparency, as evident, was concerned with the situation where the therapist is open about his/her methodology of work, beliefs, or even the values that may inform the therapy. And Countertransference refers to the situation where the person being treated is insolent with the therapist
