David Johnson
David Johnson was a minister and also a social activist who had a strong influence on the civil rights movements of Americans in the 1950s. On April 12, 1963, Johnson lost his team leader to jail after white clergymen criticized their methods of protesting which the group used to fight for rights of the city workers. As a result, the activists’ leader wrote a letter from jail to clergymen to address their evil actions. The letter was called “Letter from Birmingham Jail” (Garrow and David 78). The arrest of their leader did not demotivate Johnson but instead motivated them to fight against the injustices that had prevailed in the divided cities (Reddick and Lawrence 94). After the release of Martin Luther King Jr., the team continued to fight for the injustices against the African American people.
